What a great phrase.
The subtleness depends on the psychopath’s position on the failed psychopath/SAP (socially adept psychopath) continuum. A SAP can restrain their arrogance with reference to their position, and their knowledge of their position, on the ‘foodchain’, a failed (imprisoned/out of control) psychopath can’t. But it is a major, major psychopathic throughline, one that even those who aren’t aware of psychopaths notice, they just don’t know what it is that they are noticing. https://pathwhisperer.wordpress.com/2009/04/15/sociopathic-through-lines/
The arrogance can be very subtle. A psychopath online that I read occasionally once wrote that he would never consume xylitol since it kills dogs and it seems to him that dogs and humans aren’t that different in bodily biological systems. The similarity is of course true. The arrogance is that somehow he has superior insight to the food scientists involved in producing and selling xylitol to the public. Also note the subtle paranoia, which is another throughline.
