The discussions in the forums where I found this story were very hard on the mothers involved, quite a few of whom have been sentenced themselves.  I don’t wish to get into that conversation other than to say that they were up against an alien level of manipulative ability and quite possibly an alien level of intelligence.

It’s a disappointment that neither article mentioned sociopathy or psychopathy, this seems to be the bizarre norm for the media.  Steven Demink should be isolated for the remainder of this life.  Unfortunately he will probably be paroled well before serving his whole sentence.

In a responsible world he would be transferred from the jail to a mental hospital at the end of his sentence.  At this level of sociopathy, he is only human in form and in the biology of his structure.  His attorney is quoted as saying, “It’s a shame he couldn’t ask for help.”  That fantasy is a profound and common misunderstanding of the reality of sociopathy.

Back to the post at hand [Just checking who’s paying attention.  . . .  yeah, that’s the ticket!], Chris Lee also failed to follow his own advice.

Oops, that’s two sociopathic thinking pattern flags for our Chris Lee.  Public positions and statements have nothing to do with a sociopath’s life.  It’s not even hypocrisy, it’s their nature.  Words are lifetools for them, to be used strategically and politically, not as an expression of themselves or any serious truths (which don’t exist in their world).

UPDATE: The Craigslist Congressman and the Crossdressing Prostitute.  According to Gawker, Chris Lee was also interested in “passable TS/CD”s (transsexual crossdressers).

Sociopaths are pansexual for the same reason they seek multiple partners (often hundreds, sometimes thousands) — sheer boredom.  The act of sex means no more to them emotionally than sex with an inflatable doll would mean to us.

So why?  I think the answer is simply that consequences are those boring things grownups are always talking about.  Sociopaths want what they want, when they want it, just like all babies.  It’s just one more trait of their arrested development and lack of psychological development.  Stupidity is not the issue, IQs can still be quite high.

A search today: “i am the target of a sociopathic bully. what do i do?”

Since I don’t know if this is taking place in a school, a neighborhood or a workplace but since my own personal knowledge comes from workplaces I’ll use that.  For workplace bullying targets, I suggest the following:

1.  Make one, but probably only one, very firm push against the sociopath, both with co-workers and management.  This is a ‘do unto others before they do unto you’ situation — don’t hold back, realize your attacker will not play fair, respond accordingly.

2.  If a case can be made without reference to the bully being a sociopath, go down that path.  Too many people simply can’t wrap their minds around an individual in their circle actually being a sociopath, this often (almost always?) includes management and HR (how can this be?).

3.  If the bully is so crafty that the campaign is invisible to third parties, in complaints to management and HR directly assert that the individual is a sociopath.  Refer them to http://www.bullyonline.org/ if need be.  Suggest that they request a brain scan from the bully.  You want to have the workplace bully fired, they don’t play ‘live and let live.’

4.  If the bully is protected by a high placed devotee (some individuals fall under a cultish spell regarding an admired sociopath — they are impossible to get through to, being almost as dedicated to the sociopath as a mother is to her own two year old.  (I am totally serious.)); or if the sociopathic bully is protected by fellow sociopaths in management and/or HR (though management can override HR if management is strongly on your side) then leave.  Give up.  It doesn’t matter how much you like the job, how much you invested in it, etc. you can not trade blows with a sociopath.  Everything connected to you is fair game to them, your reputation, your family, your spouse.  Furthermore, workplace bullies may spend years on bullying campaigns.  I’ve found them to be ‘beyond the pale’ sociopaths, completely emotionless mimics of normal human beings.  Being emotionless they have no normal satisfactions and pleasures — to them it makes sense to dedicate years and immense effort and brainpower on these campaigns.  If you say that “no enemy is going to make my choices for me” and stay, you, your marriage, and your family will be damaged by the corrosive stress of the situation — people die from this everyday, believe me.  Don’t do it.

I recently bought a book entitled, The 48 Laws of Power, by Robert Greene, because it sounded like an interesting book. But the more I got into it, I realized that the heretofore-thought-mythical “Psychopathic Play book” does exist, and this is it!

Robert Greene, by the way, also wrote The Art of Seduction.

Here’s what the jacket blurb on the back of The 48 Laws of Power says about its content:

The preface of the book gets right down to business:

This game of constant duplicity most resembles the power dynamic that existed in the scheming world of the old aristocratic court(s).”

The author, Greene, then goes on to perfectly describe the psychopath’s ways, without naming him such “…those who make a show or display of innocence are the least innocent of all.” What else but a psychopath could “recognize…by the way they flaunt their moral qualities, their piety, their exquisite sense of justice … but (they) are merely throwing dust in our eyes distracting us from their power plays with their air of moral superiority….you will see they are often the ones most skillful at indirect manipulation, …and they greatly resent any publicizing of the tactics they use.”

The most personally disturbing part of the book was one in which he was discussing the siege of Troy, and he said, “Image: The Trojan Horse. Your guile is hidden inside a magnificent gift that proves irresistible to your opponent. The walls open. Once inside, wreak havoc.”

We must learn to protect ourselves from those power-players who have no conscience, the power players who will use calculated acts of kindness or proffered gifts to earn our trust. Selective kindness can be the biggest part of the arsenal of deception. “Aimed for the heart, it corrodes the will to fight back.”

Ah Lovefraud — the gift to the lazy blogger.  “Borrowing” from a post, the above quote is from LETTERS TO LOVEFRAUD  ‘O like Umbrella,’ and the shut down mechanism.  I’d like to focus on a few passages here and there (emphases added).  Please visit the original for the full context, it’s written by Quest, a 55 year old male after the disaster of a relationship with a psychopath.

Two weeks after leaving I realised that I was now damaged goods.  Many times I found myself asking myself, what had this woman done to me and how did she do it??? . . .

So what were my symptoms?  . . .  I was in a state of awareness that I can only describe as being hypervigilant for other psychopaths, or the possibility of them. Basically everyone I met was a potential psychopath until proven otherwise. Paranoia was rampant.

As time passed. I learned how to see psychopaths. It was as if a sixth sense had been awakened and I was wired to the symptoms of psychopathy. Any symptom set the alarm bells ringing in my mind. Well, all this knowledge and awareness was great, but I still could not fix the damage. . . .

Anyone who has spent any time in an intimate relationship with a psychopath knows that things get very confusing at times. What appears to happen to the victim is a kind of mental shut down that seems to happen at a subconscious level, beyond the normal conscious awareness of the victim. The victim, not realising what is happening, slowly gets lulled into an almost vegetative state where they can hardly recognise themselves. It feels like their very essence or soul has been sucked right out of them, leaving a confused, rudderless entity, almost a zombie.

The victim tries to make sense of what is going on around them. What they don’t realise is, nothing is supposed to make sense. The psychopath is in full attack mode on the victim’s sanity. The psychopath is basically talking nonsense, but the victim is not aware that it is nonsense, or that they are under premeditated attack. As the victim’s mind tries to make sense of the babble, not realising that its not supposed to make sense, because it almost does make sense, some part of the persons thinking processes shuts down. How this really works I am not sure, but I feel as if I am getting close to the realisation of it.

If it doesn’t make sense it’s probably nonsense and you are probably dealing with a psychopath. Because a psychopath is so good at hiding nonsense in amongst sense, most people miss the nonsense. Being aware of this puts the power in the hands of the victim or potential victim. . . .

So gaslighting shuts the victim down mentally. I feel it is important to realise this, because once a victim is shut down, it will take a long time to wake them up again. I guess the revelation here is realising the relationship between gaslighting and the shut down mechanism. It’s all in the nonsense.

Apparently he developed the ability to ‘see psychopaths.’  I once knew a woman, a coworker, who claimed to be able to do this.  She said that while standing at street corners waiting to cross she’d start recognizing the psychopaths around her.  She said they were all over.  Concerning coworkers that she claimed to be psychopathic, once I got to know them, I never knew her to be wrong.  That’s one reason I always try to post images of my possible psychopaths/sociopaths — I’ll stare at them to see if I can see anything, or see if my subconscious sees anything.

Also note the full court press Quest’s psychopathic partner mounted on his personality.  Long term partners of psychopaths often end up with severely degraded personalities.

Regarding his “sixth sense”, obviously it’s not actually a sixth sense, it’s not a sense that only sharks usually have, it’s not information from a multi-dimensional portal, it’s a turning loose, a turning on of his subconscious’s abilities.  As a trained actor, I very strongly believe the greatest abilities and perceptions are all rooted in the subconscious.  In my own dealing with possible sociopaths, I pay attention to check list items, to behaviors and thought patterns that I consider often sociopathic, to eyes, to a particular type of arrogance and to small behaviors consistent with arrested development and then wait for “a click”, i.e., acknowledgment from my subconscious that yes indeed the particular individual is a sociopath — until then, I don’t “know”, I only suspect.  I do realize that this is against the tradition of the scientific method which states all knowledge is knowable by all, and accessible by following the 4 step nonemotional understanding method — step, 2, 3, understand — however this doesn’t work for dealing with sociopaths.  My recommendation is that we should all work to develop Quest’s sixth sense.

Since my opinions are not based on the scientific method, I understand that I have no proof to offer a third party.  So be it.  I can only offer “flags of possible sociopathy”.  But if someone asked me, “OK, I see those flags.  Are you saying they are proof of sociopathy?”  Me, “No, those plus everything else is the proof.”  I couldn’t even prove that someone was a sociopath to my earlier self.  I would have responded, “Well, I see those behaviors and flags you mention, but why should I believe they mean anything deep, let alone prove of sociopathy?”  My subconscious had no knowledge of sociopathy, no way to translate the cues.

I would predict that many visitors to this blog think that they have never met any sociopaths.  I would bet my 401K this is not true.  Rather most people do not pay any attention to the cues that are actually there.  Once I became aware of sociopaths in my own life and gained some ability to recognize them I realized that I had known quite a few throughout my life.  I am quite confident that all middle-aged visitors who work outside a small family-run business and live in cities have easily known over a dozen sociopaths, sometimes quite a few more.

I simultaneously thought his comments were both excellent and deeply flawed.

He is totally unaware of or disbelieving in sociopathy (as a genetic, dichotomous form of humanity).  He very well lays out how empathy can be destroyed, how faux sociopaths can be created but doesn’t allow for the existence of those born without empathy or the possibility of developing it.  True sociopaths lead, set the bar, set the example for the faux sociopaths.  Bullying and other morally corrupt/damaged empathy social problems have two aspects — but the sociopathic side is totally ignored.

We need some high profile humanists to publicly recognize the problem of sociopathy, to say that we simply aren’t all brothers and sisters under the skin.  I used to read Alice Miller, Robert Bradshaw, etc.  They neither ever mentioned sociopathy, nor seemed to feel there was some motivation, some force in the tragedies of their patients and subjects that they couldn’t account for.  Though looking back I definitely see psychopathic individuals described in their writings.

On one hand Gabor Mate is a very deep thinker, on the other hand what he says is common sense.  Why has this common sense been so ignored or even smashed in our era?  Enlightened, deeply humanistic common sense has lost out to a sociopathic simple-mindedness, greed and ego-driven self-serving lack of understanding of others.  Surely he sees that, yet he can’t see that true sociopaths are the cause of his own defeat.  Preaching love to the loveless is a losing strategy.

Flags of possible sociopathy in the TSA perv scanner/tax payer funded molesters debacle

1.  Merely coming up with the idea. Sociopathic groups often betray their sociopathy through groupthink reasoning that only makes sense to them — leaving others saying:  “Huh, wha??” or “Sure that makes sense, . . .  if you’re a Martian.”  They often seem to enter an “Alvin and the Chipmunks” echo chamber — “yeah, yeah, yeah, what he said”, “brilliant, simply brilliant,” “indubitably”, etc., etc.  You have to remember that sociopaths are all permanent children through arrested development.  The adult world makes no sense to them — and in groups they’re prone to huge errors of understanding.

2. Legality means nothing to sociopaths (in fact, such reasoning is beyond their development stage), power everything.  The searches are blatantly unconstitutional, but to sociopaths the Constitution is merely a piece of paper.

3.  Normal, straight males have a very strong aversion to contact with other males’ genitals (and I imagine gays would want some mutuality of desire).  The TSA molesters don’t seem bothered.  To a sociopath, contact with genitals would be no more that touching someone else’s feet, for example.  (The same is true for sociopathic lovers, sexual contact has no more meaning for them than any other physical contact, say rubbing someone’s ears.)

4.  The enhanced patdowns don’t merely replicate the perv scanners, they go beyond them.  Are they designed as punitive molestations to force the compliance with the scanners?  It seems so.  How is this not a crime? http://www.consumertraveler.com/today/tsa-admits-to-punishing-travelers/

5.  Molestation is defined by the experience of the target.  If the targets say they feel they are being molested, they are.  Individuals don’t usually feel molested by the medical examinations — if they do, the doctor is often investigated and sometimes arrested.  (Incidentally, if a woman says that her lover (hopefully ex-lover) left her feeling molested, her lover was almost certainly sociopathic (and in dominance mode, to cut a long discussion short).)

6.  The TSA supervisor molesters and molesting agents have shown no sensitivity to youth or cultural sensitivities.  This should not be.  The percentage of damaged, corrupt, and/or sociopathic individuals in the TSA seems too high.  My daughter is very shy and she was so embarrassed she will never fly again,TSA Defends Screening of Indian Ambassador.  What is wrong with these people, where are their normal human instincts?

7.  On National Opt Out Day, the TSA sought to outflank the protesters by not using the porno scanners. . . .  Hello?  Why not announce then that they aren’t really necessary?  Again, I see this as a sociopathic groupthink error — very childish, only incomplete reasoning would lead them to think this was the way to win (and was a win).  http://wewontfly.com/why-the-tsa-cant-back-down

8.  In the blogosphere I have run into many complaints over calling TSA agents molesters, usually by posters who I considered to often use sociopathic thinking patterns.  Remember, sociopaths live in a pejorative universe, it’s the emotional connotations of words that have meanings to them.

We are fortunate that this reaction was caught on tape, after bragging about what a great liar he was, David Hampton (the model for the story of Six Degrees of Separation) threw a glass of wine in Keith Morrison’s face for his calling him a “Goddamn liar.”  (To my loyal readers, who read every post, please forgive such repeats. . . .  Hello?!  Loyal readers??!)

My take on this, is that we should use the most pejorative (and childish) terms available when discussing the TSA and its freak molester employees.

9.  The whole Antfarm World mantra of “If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.”  Sociopaths, with their incomplete psychological/soul development never have any desire for privacy concerning matters of a personal nature .  They experience no sphere of soul intimacies.

An e-mailer to Jack Cafferty of CNN once said that if anybody was watching him and his activities in the bedroom, his only hope was that they were having as much fun as he was.  This individual was a sociopath.

10.  The TSA’s lack of awareness of the danger of the X-ray scanners to both the public and their own employees.  Sociopaths never internalize simple physical law cause and effect.  Their childish universe is magical, not scientific.  (I first read this idea in a UK workplace bullying site, that I have since lost.  It’s a very powerful sociopathic organizing principal or throughline.)  Review of the TSA X-ray backscatter body scanner safety report: hide your kids, hide your wife, Radiation scientists agree TSA naked body scanners could cause breast cancer and sperm mutations.

I understand that TSA won’t allow its own employees to wear radiation measuring badges.  This is outrageous.  These machines are controlled by software and have the capability of giving full power x-rays.  Does every airport have a technician and software expert on duty all the time?  TSA Employees Finally Catch on to the Radiation Risk.

Sociopathic variation on the big lie — the assinine, preposterous big lie

The sociopathic variation (though I’m sure sociopaths are very good at the classical big lie) is the addition of a lie so half baked, so half-assed that no one can imagine a lie so stupid, and therefore conclude it must not be a lie.

The TSA porno-scanners are offered as the remedy for the Christmas “undie-bomber.”  And this has been widely accepted.  However these scanners would not have detected the plastic explosive powders (which wasn’t a bomb anyway, missing the essential detonator —  but that’s another story).  “[T]he scanners were intended to detect weapons, traditional explosives (C4, plastique, etc.), and liquids — but not powder” . . . “the millimeter waves pass through low-density materials [such as powders]”, http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/11/common-sense-and-security-body-scanners, Are planned airport scanners just a scam?.

The governing principal that enable such lies to be effective is that, in general, people want the world to make sense.  As I understand it, juries will actually invent narratives to make sense of their positions.

The big lie actually contains its own downfall, there is more proof that bigger lies are lies than smaller ones.  But paradoxically their very bigness prevents a critical examination of their truth value (particularly if joined with intense emotions).  This seems even more so for the preposterous big lie.  These lies are actually transparent in their falseness.  Literally they don’t make sense if examined.  But the target audience can not “believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth” so sloppily, so they don’t see it (to borrow Hitler’s phrase).

Or something like that.  There is a problem in this theory, sort of a fourth dimensional singularity, a time travel problem.  To be convinced by the sloppy preposterousness they first have to see it, and then go back and not see it.  But isn’t that the way the psyche works?  Every member of an incest family has to see it, but then goes back and mounts a defense against seeing it.  Of course, it’s not time travel it’s the gatekeeping ability of the unconscious.

What drives these lies is an extreme contempt for the target audience, which, sadly, the audience lives down to.  As sociopaths never get tired of saying, people believe what they want to believe.  These lies can be motivated by either sociopathic modality or actuality.

This individual is an extreme example of the “alien masquerading as a human” level psychopath.

I have my own six-degrees-of-separation connection to Dr. Swango.  One of Michael Swango’s waypoints was his conning Alan Miller, M.D.,  into admitting him into a psychiatry training program.  Alan Miller essentially made my father’s career (I met him as my father’s boss during my school years).  His recognition of my father’s talent and his promoting him was what led to my father becoming a state commissioner of mental health himself.  I have both respect and affection for Dr. Miller.

I have seen comments and received one myself that diagnosing psychopaths should be left to psychiatrists.  Yet here, an extremely able and intelligent psychiatrist was unable to recognize Swango as a psychopath.  In my opinion, Michael Swango is immediately recognizable as a psychopath.  There is simply no soul behind his eyes.

Those with eyes can see, those without, cannot.  Western education in general tries to forbid “emotional reading” or “soul sensitivity.”  I can’t see how anything in MD training is of any help in the training of a therapist.  They’d be better off spending the years reading great novels, seeing great plays (or reading them) and movies and then discussing the motivations of the human soul.

The secular soul is that part of the psyche that dreams and never lies, the seat of the deepest wants, desires and instincts.  Psychopaths/sociopaths simply never develop a complex adult soul.  This is reflected in their lives, behavior and even their eyes.

In my opinion, the long criminal career of Dr. Swango represented an egregious failure of both our justice and mental health systems.  There was enough evidence from his early contacts with the law to recognize him as a dangerous psychopath even though there was not enough evidence for a legal win.  He should have faced involuntary commitment as a danger to society criminally insane psychopath.   Obviously this would have depended on publicly witnessed behaviors and checklist type items, not an individual (such as myself) saying ‘well, my subconscious says he’s a psychopath.’  I present that approach simply as a life tool, not as a legal or involuntary commitment tool.

Plea Deal Falls Through For Alleged Sex Offender; Trial Set For Next Month
