Sociopaths hate being asked to be generous or to consider the wellbeing of others. Emotionally/psychologically it “hurts” them. Literally they have never crossed into the “OK, I’m now able/willing to share my toys” stage of childhood. They still resent being asked and like young children get angry at being pressed beyond their development stage.
Elsewhere I have suggested it might be possible to pin down a sociopath’s approximate age level (somewhere in the latency period) but their development is a very odd amalgam with some incredibly young traits. The above is one, another is their inability to differentiate between the self and the self’s emotional desires (to them these are not two things). Being emotionally thwarted is taken to be an attack on the self.
True adults should take over the movement. I am sure there are many sincere members who seek to restore constitutional government and a true democracy that reflects the wishes of the citizens.

Plus progressives, such as my earlier self, ‘follow the crowd’, like most people. Plus they have an unstated belief in a ‘community of the wise’ — located in such publications as the NY Times, The New Yorker, the Atlantic, and in the universities, etc. In my experience progressives will believe ‘university studies’ over their own eyes, for example when driving through hollowed out towns on the old US Highway system that goes from Main Street to Main Street.

Uh, . . . OK, it’s time for PW to give my fan what he or she comes for. So starting with recent searches, in no particular order:
what is reverse blackmail
Blackmail always presents the opportunity of reverse blackmail, namely, ‘if you do what you threaten, then I’ll have you jailed for blackmail, your choice.’ It’s an ‘out cooling’ strategy. You can’t pull it off if you are playing however. You need to really believe you can do it, so practice etc. Otherwise a sociopath will see right through the attempt.
does blackmail lead to further blackmail
Absolutely, often a lifetime of blackmail. Sometimes it seems someone will accede to a blackmail demand as a way to preserve their world and their life as they know it — but then the blackmailer will essentially move in and take over their life. No sociopath will ever be bound by a promise of ‘do this and then you’re free.’ That’s why it is worth fighting the initial blackmail attempt tooth and nail (reverse blackmail, building a harassment case, getting a concealed carry permit, etc.).
i loaned a sociopath money. what do i do?
First stop loaning them more money. You will never get your original money back unless you are in a position of power over them. Most people simply have to wave goodbye to the loaned money. Since sociopaths are geniuses at inciting pity, probably 95%+ have loaned money to one at some point, I certainly have.

Absolutely and in every way. Sociopathy is an arrested development syndrome.

That’s an interesting question. It seems to depend on the ‘dose’ of sociopathy. Male sociopaths seem to relate to their fathers.

Not all are. Those who are know they are, in my opinion.

It doesn’t necessarily make sense anywhere outside of that particular sociopath’s mind. Third parties usually assume there is a reason, a history and two sides to a story — none of which are necessarily true in these situations. Sometimes though they will seek to protect a fellow sociopath by targeting that sociopath’s target or cause of trouble. This opens up the subject of sociopathic gang stalking which is a huge problem.
do sociopaths run together
Absolutely. Sociopaths vary in their ability to manage in the normal world (the phrase often used it that they are as strangers in a strange land). They will cluster around those more able.

Yes, the hundreds (thousands?) of lovers, the lack of concern about spreading the mysterious disease. Flight steward/attendant is a great job for sociopaths — seeing the world, meeting many people, going to bed with them, avoiding boredom.

It’s called gaslighting. They will spend enormous time and effort in these pursuits, it makes them feel superior. More to the point of the question, sensing vulnerabilities and entry points to an individual’s psyche is a trait of sociopaths (inborn, imo).

Before bashing HR let’s consider more innocuous explanations. Most people assume every story has two sides and a rational explanation — assuming these things will always protect a sociopath. Gays, including gay HR reps, will almost always give the benefit of the doubt to sociopaths as co-alternate sexuality community members (with the exception of those who have experienced sociopathic betrayal). Moving on — many people join HR for the pleasure of lying and manipulating others — so there is a high percentage of actual sociopaths, children of sociopaths, and those who admire sociopathic techniques (such as Machiavellian strategies) in the field.

I assume the searcher means can you blackmail a sociopath about being a sociopath. If you can you are probably doing so already, no need to spell it out. It depends on many things such as where the individual sociopath is on the arrogance/I never lose/consequences-schmonsequences/i’m a Mutant-X superman/why-oh-why are people born so stupid continuums. Also how can you blackmail someone who doesn’t understand cause and effect or is stuck in a four year old’s thinking patterns (Newt Gingrich says there is a four year old inside of him — ‘everyday he wakes up and knows that there is a cookie waiting for him somewhere, his job is to find it’).
am i safe if i am a target of a sister who is a psychopath
Personally I would put as much physical distance between myself and her as possible. Do not maintain a relationship for ‘the sake of the family.’ Try to educate your loved ones about psychopathy (which can be very hard to do).

Hmmm. Proof that their defect is a sign of superiority? Outside support of their innate arrogance? Revenge on the emotionally alive?

Watch their crying sequence, they get it all wrong. Watch a vet mourn for fallen comrades, usually the chin starts trembling, they lose control of their voice, they turn away, they cry. Psychopathic fake crying comes across like a badly programmed robot’s efforts. Also, there is often a feeling that the psychopath is watching through their fingers to judge the effect and/or is contemptuous of onlookers (pay attention to all emotional responses when dealing with possible psychopaths).
My instincts tell me there’s something terribly wrong here with the Petit story. Of course, my instincts could be wrong. However, I’ve also seen a few videos backing the swiftest possible execution of the perps found guilty (who by all accounts are total monsters) of murdering the Petit family. The individuals speaking in these videos also raised my suspicions as possible sociopaths — the question is, why do these third parties care so much about disposing of these found guilty perps?
A Revenge Plot So Intricate, the Prosecutors Were Pawns
Soon after Seemona Sumasar started dating Jerry Ramrattan, she had an inkling that something might be wrong.
He said he was a police detective, but never seemed to go to work. He seemed obsessed with “C.S.I.,” “Law & Order” and other television police dramas.
About a year after he moved into her house in Queens, their relationship soured. One day, he cornered her, taped her mouth and raped her, she said. Mr. Ramrattan was arrested.
But he soon took his revenge, the authorities said. Drawing on his knowledge of police procedure, gleaned from his time as an informer for law enforcement, he accomplished what prosecutors in New York called one of the most elaborate framing plots that they had ever seen.
One night, Ms. Sumasar was pulled over by the police. Before she could speak, detectives slapped handcuffs on her. “You know you did it,” she said one later shouted at her. “Just admit it.”
Note the extreme lengths Ramrattan went to to orchestrate this revenge. Sociopaths often live in a world ordered, almost exclusively, by the winner/loser continuum. Many sociopaths simply “can’t lose”, will even say “I never lose.”
I believe the prosecution staff and the police involved should also be evaluated for possible sociopathy.

Recall here the words of Herve Cleckley, which I encountered for the first time in the fall of 1980: “Only very slowly and by a complex estimation or judgment based on multitudinous small impressions does the conviction come upon us [in regard to the psychopath] that, despite these intact rational processes, these normal emotional affirmations and their consistent application in all directions, we are dealing … not with a complete man at all but with something that suggests a subtly constructed reflex machine which can mimic the human personality perfectly.” [Mask of Sanity, p. 369]
It took me a long time to accept that MacDonald could be the charming and apparently caring man I’d come to know (or thought I did) during the summer of 1979, and, at the same time be what the psychiatrist Otto Kernberg has described as “an enraged empty self—the hungry wolf out to kill, eat and survive.”
Here are the searches I’ve been found by. I find it interesting what people search for regarding sociopathy, perhaps it will interest others. By far the most interest are in the spectacular criminal sociopaths such as Rodney Alcala, Michael Swango, Stacey Castor, etc. Perhaps because they appear so human, but their behavior is so alien. I don’t know for sure, however, these visitors don’t usually ask questions. I’m always happy to expand a post by spelling out “flags of possible sociopathy” if commenters wish me to.
It’s also apparent that many people are in court with sociopaths. Also quite a few are dealing with being blackmailed.
One area I’m surprised by is the number of searches regarding pseudologia fantastica. I believe these people are rare, as opposed to sociopaths — at any rate I’ve only known two (that I know of) while I’ve known tens of sociopaths (as have all middle-aged readers of these words).

First let me note that “nonhuman human” is not a phrase I use lightly or would apply to all psychopaths. However it certainly applies to psychopathic murderers of their own families.

Two decades ago, Janet Malcolm published “The Journalist and the Murderer,” her classic story of the story of a murder trial. Her subject was the relationship between the writer Joe McGinniss and the Army doctor Jeffrey MacDonald, who gave McGinniss full access to his defense team when he stood trial for the death of his wife and children — and then discovered that over years of apparent friendship, McGinniss was writing a future best seller portraying MacDonald as a psychopathic killer. This is total nonsense, Jeffrey MacDonald was seeking to play, use, manipulate (user whatever word you want) the author Joe McGinniss. He was propelled by his psychopathic level arrogance and optimism (a mentally ill level of optimism is a flag of psychopathy, see Ronald Reagan). Joe McGinniss owed him nothing.
I’m afraid these Silly Sallies don’t appreciate the reality of the situation. I can only conclude that they (together or separately) are murderer groupies (these are the women who show up at murder trials, write letters to serial killers, etc. propelled by a psychotic unwillingness to accept reality, all males for them are ‘tall, strong and gentle, just like Dad’ — the truth is too threatening to their world), or devotees of a particular psychopath (cultlike followers and true believers taken in by a psychopath), or children of a psychopathic father (who never meet a psychopath they don’t love), or psychopaths themselves (who can’t stand to see a psychopath taken down by non-psychopaths).
In 1989, the New Yorker published a two-part article by Janet Malcolm entitled “The Journalist and the Murderer.”
In the article, which was published in book form a year later, Malcolm offered her skewed perception of my relationship with Jeffrey MacDonald–the subject of my 1983 book, Fatal Vision–to support her bizarre hypothesis that “Every journalist…knows that what he does is morally indefensible.” So numerous and egregious were Malcolm’s omissions, distortions and outright misstatements of fact that I felt compelled to set the record straight in an epilogue to the updated edition of Fatal Vision that was published in 1989.
There is no statute of limitations on truth. Even now, twenty-two years later, Malcolm’s fictions ought not to be accepted uncritically. I reprint my 1989 response to her here.
